Position Description

Job Summary

WorkCare is searching for a Full Time Occupational Health Nurse (RN) to provide on-site support in Manassas, VA.

The Occupational Health Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct patient care, injury and illness management, medical surveillance, wellness initiatives, episodic convenience care and assisting with other occupational and environmental health services, as needed, while maintaining a professional and patient-centered approach in an occupational setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site treatment / management of injuries and minimize the need for off-site medical treatment 
  • Give on-site care, first aid and follow up to occupationally injured/ill workers 
    • Ongoing communication with the treating physician regarding employee critical status
  • Perform medical surveillance testing including pulmonary function tests and hearing tests
  • Coordinate travel care and vaccinations to support global travel 
  • Perform effective case management follow-up for injuries/illness and absences
  • Coordinate care with WorkCare’s Incident Intervention Injury Management Program and utilize Physician escalation services as needed
  • Provide episodic care for minor medical issues, medical consultation and recommendations according to treatment care guidelines set forth and in collaboration with WorkCare Consulting Medical Director (CMD) and policy/procedures
  • Support injury prevention through education and ergonomic evaluation 
  • Help employees prevent injuries and manage pain
  • Report to client and WorkCare management periodically
  • Contribute insight to incident reports and tracking of injury and clinic utilization data
  • Order and maintain supplies to ensure that the clinic is appropriately stocked
  • Participate in general flow of clinic operations
  • Provide dose of common pre-packaged over the counter (OTC) medicine to employees for episodic care at no cost to the employee, as well as follow up care, which must be provided by the employee’s personal medical provider

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid VA RN license 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is highly preferred 
  • Must hold current BLS certification 
  • 3–5 years RN experience required 
  • 2-3 years’ experience in an urgent care, emergency department or occupational health setting preferred
  • Certification in Occupational Health preferred

  • Must have the ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.

  • Ability to create and edit written materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues, supervisors and clients.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to meet and exceed daily and weekly individual performance goals.
  • Ability to work independently as well as assisting other team members when needed.
  • Requires regular and predictable attendance and punctuality. 

Computer Skills

  • Must be competent in the Windows operating system environment, Adobe Professional, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and learn other software as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Requires sitting for long periods of time, working at a desk.
  • Some bending and stretching could be required.
  • Working under stress and use of computer/phone required.
  • Manual dexterity required for use of computer keyboard.
  • Occasionally may be required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and/or crouch.
  • May occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. 

Work Environment

  • Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • Air quality is good, and temperature is controlled.

Additional Job Information

The work hours are Monday through Friday 6:00am-3:00pm EST.

This position has a salary range of $38.00-$42.00 per hour. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
