Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is looking for a dedicated Inpatient Lactation Consultant to join the team. This position offers part-time hours, with day and evening shifts totaling 20 hours per week.

Inpatient Lactation Consultant Job Responsibilities:
• Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Provides lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
• Evaluates patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
• Performs consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
• Offers post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
• Provides lactation support to all patients in sometimes very challenging clinical and psychosocial circumstances, which may include bereavement of baby or post trauma recovery.
• Serves as an advocate for the patient at all times, communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
- Work schedule: Days/Evenings shifts, 20 hours/week
- Required Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
- Experience: Required: A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.
- Required Certification: Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or achieved IBCLC within 1 year of hire | Current VA nursing licensure or eligible for VA nursing licensure | Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
- Preferred Experience: Two years as a Registered Nurse on a postpartum unit, who currently holds an IBCLC.
